Meet our Executive Board

  • Brian Kinkade

    PRESIDENT | PIPER

    Former Pipe Sergeant for MVP&D, Brian has been playing bagpipes for over two decades. He started playing with the Galloway Highlanders in 2001 in Utah. After moving to Ohio in 2006, he joined Miami Valley Pipes & Drums. Brian loves piobaireachd and the World Pipe Band Championships. He competes in the EUSPBA and has a lot of playing experience.

  • Don Kennedy

    Donald "Donk" Kennedy

    VICE PRESIDENT | PIPER

    Don Kennedy, or “Donk” is currently the intermediate instructor and Vice President for the band. He also serves on the board to help vote on important issues for band direction. He is also a member of the Peel Police Pipe Band in Canada. He is a staunch bagpipe enthusiast and will help you get to the next level in your bagpipe journey.

  • Jonathan Ross

    Jonathan "Jon" Ross

    SECRETARY/TREASURER | PIPER

    Former Police Sgt. of Dayton and Founding Member, Jon has been one of the most staunch supporters with his financial, logistic, and venue planning. His sense of humor and lightheartedness fills practices and events with laughs and smiles. Currently Jon is the Secretary for the band.

  • PM Richard "Pipey" Parker

    PIPE MAJOR

    Richard “Rich” Parker, or Pipey as he is affectionally referred, is another founding member for the band and Pipe Major. He is an active duty reservist for the U.S. Air Force. Outside of his Air Force career, he has led the Miami Valley Pipes & Drums in parades and musical direction. He is a phenomenal piper and we are happy to have him as our Pipe Major. Practice is always “Pipey Approved”

  • Daniel "Dan" Ross

    QUARTERMASTER | BASS DRUMMER

    Daniel “Dan” Ross is the Quartermaster for the band. He started the drum corp from scratch when there were virtually no drummers in the band. Jon Ross and Dan Ross are brothers, and their significant contribution to the band have established MVP&D as we know today.

  • Robert MacDermott

    TREASURER | PIPER

    Robert is the current treasurer for the band . He is currently a grade 4 piper within the Eastern United Stated Pipe Band Association (EUSPBA), and is an Officer with the U.S. Air Force.

Meet the Pipe Corp

  • Craig Boman

    PIPER

    After studying music formally in college, Craig Boman started learning pipes with MVPD in fall 2012. Taking a few years off to work on grad school, he returned to piping again more seriously and has been playing with MVPD since 2018. He has been competing in grade 4 solo competitions through EUSPBA and looks forward to competing in grade 3 soon.

  • Hannah Deane

    PIPER

    Hannah grew up listening to bagpipe music and really enjoyed the sound. She also had a dream to play them while riding a horse. So when she found out about Miami Valley Pipes and Drums, she began taking lessons from Greg Martin. Her favorite part about the hobby is just being able to continually learn more and more about such a unique instrument.

  • Alexander "Lex" Kinkade

    PIPE CORPORAL | MEDIA OWNER

    Alexander has been around bagpipes since his father started playing in the late 1990s. His father gave him some basic lessons in 2007 before attending lessons with Greg Martin in late 2008. After a few months, he joined the pipe corp. He competes in solo competitors across the US and has competed virtually in Scotland for the World Amateur Piping Championship.

  • Greg Martin

    SENIOR INSTRUCTOR | PIPER

    Greg is the teacher for all students who are willing to learn and play for the band. He has been teaching for many years and his students play to this day over 10 years later. He also is an established piper who performed many private ceremonieis and events for others. In the past, he also competed with the EUSPBA. Greg has a large sum of knowledge, teaching techniques, and experience. We are lucky to have him in our band.

  • Lucas "Luke" Robinson

    PIPE SERGEANT

    Luke requested a piper to play at his wedding, and that piper, Robert McDermott, gave him contact information for the band and promised free lessons. Luke had tried to learn on his own around 2011 but it didn't go well, so after returning from his honeymoon he started lessons with Greg Martin in October 2013. His first band performance was in January 2015, and he has been Pipe Sergeant since 2018.

Meet the Drum Corp

  • Chad Hines

    DRUM SARGENT

    Chad first saw the band at the Ohio Renaissance Festival in 2015 and immediately wanted to join. He quickly picked up the technique thanks to his background in percussion and marching band. Following the 2016 competition, he proved he had what it takes to take over as lead snare. Competing in every competition since, he has grown as a Pipe Band drummer and as an overall drummer and hopes to solo compete soon.
